Dear Families,

    This month, I am writing this letter to share with you good news.  For the first time in several years, Edison is no longer considered a school on improvement status.  Under No Child Left Behind, schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two or more consecutive years are labeled “on improvement.”  The expectation for these schools is that with additional resources and planning, scores will improve.  Well, that is what happened at Edison.  For the last two years, we have made AYP in math and have gotten off improvement status.  This by no means indicates that we are finished with our work.  We still have too many of our students who are not leaving their grade levels with the necessary knowledge to be successful in the next grade.  Even though we are not officially on “improvement,” we are improving efforts at serving our students daily.

    I would like to thank all of the parents and community members for their support of Edison.  The teachers and staff of Edison are hard-working but all of it would be for naught if we did not have such wonderfully supportive, committed, hard-working families.  Parents are in regular attendance at our Second Cup of Coffee.  We recently had 88% of families in attendance at parent conferences.  And we have parents attending English classes and parent workshops to find out more ways of helping their children at home.  This is what family involvement is all about!

    Please know that if you ever have a concern, I would love to hear from you.  The only way for us to solve problems that you or your children may be experiencing is to hear about them.  Feel free to come into the front office and talk to us.  We feel confident that we can get to the bottom of the issue and come up with a satisfying solution that will address the needs of your student and your family!

Este mes escribo esta cara para compartir buenas noticias con Uds.  Por la primera vez en varios años, Edison ya no se considera una escuela de estatus en mejoramiento.  Bajo Ningún Niño Dejado por Detrás, las escuelas que no logran el Progreso Adecuado Anual (sigla AYP) para dos años o más consecutivos designada “en mejoramiento.”  La expectativa para estas escuelas es que los puntajes se mejoren con recursos y planificación adicional.  Pues, es lo que sucedió en Edison.  Durante los últimos dos años hemos logrado AYP en las matemáticas y hemos salido de la lista de escuelas en  mejoramiento.  No significa de ninguna manera que hemos terminado nuestro trabajo.  Todavía tenemos demasiados estudiantes que terminan un grado sin el conocimiento necesario para tener éxito en el próximo grado.  Aun que no estamos en “mejoramiento” oficialmente, mejoramos nuestros esfuerzos de servir nuestros estudiantes cada día.

Me gustaría agradecer a todos los padres y miembros de la comunidad su apoyo de Edison.  Los maestros y el personal de Edison trabajan fuertemente, pero no llegaría a nada si no tuvieramos el apoyo, compromiso y trabajo de tantas familias.  Los padres están en asistencia regular en nuestras reuniones de Segunda Taza de Café.  Recientemente tuvimos una asistencia de 88% de nuestras familias en las conferencias de padres y maestros.  Y tenemos padres que asisten clases del inglés y talleres de padres para encontrar más maneras de ayudar a sus hijos en casa.  Esto es el propósito de la participación familiar.

Por favor Sepan que si tienen alguna inquietud, me gustaría que me lo dirija.  La única manera de resolver los problemas que experimentan Uds. y sus hijos será oirlos.  No tenga ningún inconveniente en pasar por la oficina principal para hablarnos.  Estamos seguros de que podemos arreglar cualquier asunto y llegar a una resolución satisfactoria  que trata las necesidades de su hijo y su familia.
